World Matchplay – Tue 19th July

I was shocked to see James Wade lose 10-5 to Mervyn King and Michael Van Gerwen looked impressive when he whitewashed Jamie Caven. I noticed the crowd were putting off the players on Sunday and hope this doesn’t continue and gets knocked on the head as soon as possible.

Round two kicks off on Tuesday night and it’s the first to 11 legs this time round.

Chisnall v Thornton

Robert Thornton has had a poor season by his standards and is a shadow of the player who beat MvG in the Grand Prix in Dublin back in October. Dave Chisnall won a floor tournament about 3 weeks ago and is the likely winner here.

Their stats were pretty similar with Dave getting 50% on the doubles and I think that is the area where the match will be won.

Wright v White

They got 14 180s between them in round one! Ian white only managed 33% on his doubles and that just isn’t enough to beat a player of Peter Wright’s calibre.

Lewis v Price

There is a bit of needle between these two and Gerwyn Price knocked out Adrian Lewis here last year so Adrian will be looking for revenge. Both players tend to go off the boil mid match but I expect that Adrian’s experience will push him over the line.
