John Higgins – Time To Lay

I previously advised to back to lay John Higgins and Mark Selby to win the UK Championship HERE, well their prices have dropped so I will now lay back John only at this stage for a “free” bet on him.

I won’t lay Mark back just yet as I will let it run for another round before making my decision.

UK Championship – Wed 30th Nov (Round 4)

It was a good day for Mark Williams yesterday afternoon as he came from 5:3 down to beat Ricky Walden 6:5, I said it would be close.

On the flip side in the evening session Ding must have played the worst snooker that I have seen all season. During the match a phone went off and apparently it was the 1970’s ringing to ask Ding for their suit back!

I really wish that I watched the Allen v Day match instead of Ding v Jones as Mark Allen was 4:0 down, then rattled in five back to back frames, including a 136 break to eventually win 6:5.

On to today and sixteen players remain as we see the start of round four which is still the best of elevens or the the first to six frames.

We are down to a two table set up which is what the UK Championship should have always been as it is the second biggest snooker tournament and should stand out from the run of the mill tournaments.

All matches are televised from here on in and times below are local time, so add an hour on for CET time.

1pm Matthew Stevens v Ronnie O’ Sullivan

1pm Zhou Yuelong v Shaun Murphy

7pm Marco Fu v Oli Lines

7pm Zhang Anda v Mark Selby

Click HERE to read a recent interview with snooker supremo Barry Hearn, it’s a good read in particular about the future of snooker.

Matthew Stevens v Ronnie O’ Sullivan

The Ronald has knocked in the most centuries so far in this tournament of five; 131, 129, 112, 106 & 103 in only nineteen frames. Matthew’s highest break for the whole tournament is 93.

Zhang Anda v Mark Selby

Mark decided not to play in last week’s Northern Ireland Open to give himself more time to prepare for this tournament, which looks like it is paying dividends. I initially wanted to go for Mark to get the highest break in this match but as Zhang knocked in two centuries in his last match I won’t bother now.

So I will opt for a Mark to win in the handicap market instead

Michael van Gerwen (Quarter 1)

With 25 tournaments under his belt for 2016 he really is the main man this year and although he is odds on I have to back him, but I have cover bets by trading Peter wright and Gary Anderson just in case Michael doesn’t win.

Gary Anderson (Quarter 3)

Gary has won this tournament for the last two years and really seems to come into form at this time of year. He has glasses now which can only be a plus and he seems to have got used to his new darts.

As I fancy two players from the bottom half to make the final I will trade them ideally laying them back if they meet each other in the semi-finals for “free bets” on them.

Off the top of my head I think I won 14 points trading Gary Anderson in this tournament last year, but it’s all detailed in my results spreadsheet.

Peter Wright (Quarter 4)

If Gary doesn’t make the final from the bottom half of the draw, Peter will make an able deputy. He only won once in 2016 but reached several semi-finals.

My ideal bet would be for Peter to win his quarter but at odds of only 5/4 I will give that a miss as it’s way too short considering he is 14/1 to win! A MvG and Wright final is only 9/2 so I will trade Peter instead on Betfair and lay him back if he meets Gary in the semi-finals or if he meets MvG in the final.

UK Championship – Tue 29th Nov (Evening Session)

Mark allen 147 maximum break in the uk championship

Today’s tips have been split into two separate posts, the afternoon session and the evening session. Click HERE to see my tips for the 1pm session.

So far for this tournament I have had 3/3 winning tips for the highest break scorers market and I sticking with a similar bet tonight.

Fergal O’ Brien v Stephen Maguire

Although Stephen hasn’t had great results this season, he is playing better than his results suggest. The last four matches that he has lost have all gone to the final frames and more importantly for me from a betting point of view today, he has averaged exactly one century in his last six matches.

Fergal has been knocking in the centuries after getting five in his 6:5 victory over Barry Hawkins in round two.

Mark Allen v Ryan Day – Televised

Mark got three centuries in round one and although he only got the one in round two, he can be forgiven for that as it was a 147, his first in a professional match.
