The Players Championship Finals takes place this weekend with a field of 64 battling it out at the Butlins Minehead Resort.
Michael van Gerwen is defending his crown at the £400,000 tournament, which is televised live on ITV4, as he goes for an astonishing 25th title success of the season.
This tournament is one that I am thinking of going to in 2017 in addition to World Grand Prix that I went to for the first time in October. Then in 2018 it’s Vegas baby!

Michael van Gerwen
If someone would have said to me two years or so ago that I would be backing a darts player at odds on to win a tournament before a dart is thrown I would have said “in your dreams,” but the way MvG is throwing at the moment it’s kind of hard not to!
With 24 titles under his belt this year it’s hard to find anyone to stop him. He has an easy top half draw with Wright and Anderson in the bottom half. Phil Taylor is absent this weekend as he didn’t qualify!
Back MvG to win outright
3 points at 3/4 Net Bet & 10Bet (1.74)
Peter must sick to the back teeth of meeting MvG and losing. But one day he will win his first televised tournament and should Michael put in a bad performance I am sure Peter will claim the spoils.
Wright has a tough draw with Gary Anderson in the same quarter. But If Peter beats Gary it’s plain sailing to the final, so at 18/1 he is surely worth an each way punt!
