And then there were eight…the quarter-finals start and finish today which are made up of five world champions and maybe a future world champion, Luca Brecel.
It is still the best of elevens or the first to six frames.
John Higgins v Mark Selby (1pm)
These two have had some cracking matches over the years and this match really has the feeling of a final to me. They are the only players who have won two tournaments this season. John won the China Championship followed by the Champion of Champions and Mark has the Paul Hunter Classic and the International Championship to his name.
There is no point referring to the head to heads a John’s recent form trumps that.
They are both obviously playing well, can score heavy and are two of the best tactical players. So it screams out a close match to me.
Mark Williams v Ronnie O’ Sullivan (7pm)
Mark has been fantastic in his last two matches after coming from 5:3 down to win 6:5, but he isn’t a prolific high scoring break builder.
The Ronald has bagged six centuries compared to Mark’s one.
Over 9.5 frames – Higgins v Selby
Highest break scorer – O’ Sullivan
15/8 Paddy Power (2.94)
