There are two sessions at 1pm and 7pm and the round one matches are the first to six frames. As it is a one table set up from the start all the matches will be televised.
I have decided to review all of round one matches here and put all of round one tips here too rather than post every day.

Sunday 15th January
1pm – Ronnie O’ Sullivan v Liang Wenbo
The last four times that these two have met have been close matches. The Ronald won three of them 10:7, 3:2 & 5:4 and Liang won the other one 4:6.
The Ronald has taken Liang under his wing as a mentor type of figure and they appear to be good friends too which has probably killed the fear factor that so many player have when playing him.
Liang won his first tournament The English Open in October 2016, so I see no reason why it won’t be a close match once more.
Back O’ Sullivan – Highest Break Scorer
2/5 (1.40) Powers
Back Over 9.5 Frames
7/4 (2.75) Powers
7pm – Ding Junhui v Kyren Wilson
Kyren has gone deep in a few competitions this season; runner-up in the Indian Open, semi-finalist in the Northern Ireland Open & made round 4 in the Scottish Open.
The last time these two played Kyren won 5:4, so at 15/8 I think Kyren is worth a punt!
Back Wilson To Win
15/8 (2.88) Stan James
Monday 16th January
1pm – John Higgins v Mark Allen
Towards the end of 2016 John won two tournaments, was a runner-up and got a 147. He is playing Mark who tends to go for everything and will leave John plenty of frame winning opportunities.
The last twice that these two played each other John won 9:3 and 6:3 and I am expecting a similar scoreline on Monday.
In a nutshell I don’t think Mark is snooker savvy enough to beat John.
Back Higgins To Win -1.5 Frames
19/20 (1.93) 10 Bet
7pm – Stuart Bingham v Joe Perry
Although Stuart hasn’t won anything this year he has still played really well. He made two finals and three semi-finals where as the best that Joe has managed was a final way back in July 2016 and Joe has been pretty quite ever since.
I think Stuart is the most consistent here and should win with a bit in hand.
Back Bingham To Win -1.5 Frames

Tuesday 17th January
1pm – Judd Trump v Marco Fu
Judd played really well here last year and played one of the best matches that I have seen over the last two years or so against Neil Robertson. Judd had a great spell over the autumn, but now it’s Marco turn!
Marco Fu beat the in form John Higgins in the final of the UK Championships 9:4 and he seems value to win here at odds against.
Back Fu To Win
7/4 (2.75) Ladbrokes
7pm – Neil Robertson v Ali Carter
Neil has been unpredictable player over the last 18 months or so. He won two back to back tournament at the end of 2015, the Champion of Champions and then the UK Championship……then he went out in round one in the last three tournaments of 2015/16!
This season he won the opening tournament the Riga Masters and then had three back to back first round exits at the end of 2016. So I just have to avoid this match as anything can happen!
Wednesday 18th January
1pm – Mark Selby v Mark Williams
Mark Selby should win this match for the same reasons why I think he will win this tournament. So as I have already have backed him to win outright, there is no point backing him to win here.
7pm – Shaun Murphy v Barry Hawkins
This is a match between two of snookers nice guys.
Shaun hasn’t been playing to his full potential this season so far, maybe it’s down to the fact that he is a father now or maybe it’s something else, but I am going to take him on here.
Barry played well here last year and made it to the final where unfortunately he played really poor and got beat 10-1 by The Ronald. This season he also made another final in November, the Northern Ireland Open, only just missed out on winning as it went to a deciding frame. He also played well in the first to three frames Championship League earlier this week which should put him in good stead for his opening match.
Back Hawkins To Win
6/4 (2.50) Stan James
