Round one starts today at 1pm on Euro Sports and concludes tomorrow. It is the first to five frames and the draw can be seen here, which is updated after each match.
I am not getting involved in any outright bets yet, but may well do as the tournament progresses.
The televised matches today are as follows:
Stephen Maguire v Ali Carter (1pm)
Ronnie O’ Sullivan v Mark King (7pm)
I won’t be getting stuck into any of the televised matches today, but I do like the look of Maguire v Carter from a spectating point of view.
Robin Hull v Jimmy White (1pm)
Robin Hull beat Luca Brecel and Mathew Stevens both 5:3 in the qualifiers to get and rightfully deserves his place in round one. He also made it to round three in the Scottish open where he got beat by the tournament winner Marco Fu.
Jimmy can miss some easy balls when he is in and around the pack which tends to prove costly.
Ryan Day v Mark Allen (7pm)
Ryan beat Mark in the Championship League last month, but that was on the the first to three frames. The last time they met in a proper match Mark won 6:5.
Ryan got whitewashed 4:0 by Jimmy White in the Scottish Open, which isn’t a good sign. Where as Mark was impressive beating John Higgins 6:5 in the Masters.
I am not usually a fan of Mark Allen’s gun ho approach of going for everything, as it costs him so many matches against the top players, but if the match comes down to a potting fest, Mark will come out on top.
Although this match isn’t televised it can be seen on the Euro Sports Player.
