The Open – Outright Win/Trade

Jason Day golfer
Jason Day

The open starts today and it just isn’t the same with Peter Allis and the constant add breaks that Sky forces upon us. None of the top three have won a major this season…yet!

This years Open I am finding pretty tricky to pick a winner. Rory and Jordan are lacking consistency and I don’t really rate Dustin Johnson despite his two recent wins. Which leaves one player, Jason Day.

He doesn’t enter that many tournaments so he is always fresh coming into the majors. So far this year he has won three times. He doesn’t tee off until 9.25am so plenty of time to trade him on Betfair.

The US Open – Lay Tip

Well what has happened to Jason Day and Rory McIlroy?  If they don’t get their acts together they could both miss the cut!

I was really hoping this would be the season where I would see the big three battling it out for the majors with two of them being in the final 2 ball on the Sunday afternoon but it’s not likely this week as the second major of the season is taking shape. All three have been really erratic this season I am wondering if there is a price with some bookie that none of them will win a Major this year!

Well on the plus side my favourite and most profitable player of 2016 has only gone and done it again, yes my cash cow golfer Dusty is at the top of the leaderboard once more.

Dustin Johnson

I remember in the US Open last year Dusty was one shot clear of Jordan Spieth going into the final hole and three putted from around fourteen feet or so to lose the match, two putts would have guaranteed a play-off. So from that moment on I have him marked down as a choker.

He has won 1 tournament each year since he turned pro and is yet to win one this season. He tends to play well in the first two rounds and then has a stinker in either round three or four which scuppers his chances of winning.

I should have laid him last week, but I changed my mind as a lot of the top players were absent because they were putting the finishing touches to their games for this tournament, I am kicking myself now as he had a stinker in round three whch ruined his chances of winning.

But although Rory and Jason are hacking around this week there is still the likes of Jordan and Sergio not too far behind.

Lay Johnson at 5/2 Betfair Exchange 3.60

European Tour 5 – Quarter Finals

Well Simon Whitlock really is becoming the biggest chump in darts, not just because he was the only losing leg in my 4 fold yesterday, but because yet again he turned a lead into a loss. I really thought after the World Cup of Darts last week he was back on top of his game, but he is seriously become the player to lay as soon as he breaks the throw as he was 3-1 up and lost 6-3!

european tour 5 - austrian darts open 2016

I have one more bet that I will post in a another post, I am just waiting for more bookies to price up before I nail my colours to the mast.

The averages for Klaasen’s and Anderson’s first round matches screams out a close match, although I would have to side with Jelle here though!

Klassen got a 92 average with 2 x 180s and 6/16 on the doubles. Where as Anderson got  a 93 average with 2 x 180s and 6/15 on the doubles. Pretty close!!!

Bunting is in free fall since joining the PDC and never even broke 90 in his last match. It wouldn’t surprise me if he goes back the BDO in the next couple of years. Chizzy to win this one all day long!

Valero Texas Open

Ricky Barnes goes into the final round leading by 1 shot and ticks plenty of boxes for a lay bet.

He is in his 15th year as a pro and has yet to win a tournament, the best that he has managed is second once way back in 2009 and third three times. In fact in 2013 and 2015 he missed more cuts than he made.

Ranked at 262 and with seasoned winners on his heels such as Reed, Donald and Hoffman I will lay Ricky all day long.

LAY Ricky Barnes at 5.60 (9/2) Betfair Exchange

NB – lay means not to win and can only be done with a betting exchange such as Betfair.

Day & McIlroy Leave The Path Clear For Spieth

6 profitable weeks in a row for my golf tips.

The first major of the year is just around the corner and you can see my Masters tips here which I tipped on 18th March.

Jordan Spieth

Ok he didn’t make the final of the Dell Match Play last week as he got knocked out by the runner-up Oosty, but he played well overall. Last year Spieth was in a play off here, eventually losing to J.B. Holmes.

The odds seem wrong here as Jordan is more or less the same price to win this tournament as he is for the Masters and in this event there is no Day or McIlroy! He is 7/1 with the bookies and 17/2 with Betfair so I will be having some that.

BACK Spieth (2 points)  at 9.60 (17/2) Betfair Exchange

LAY Spieth (2 points) at 6.60 (11/2) Betfair Exchange

LAY Spieth (1 point) at 2.00 (Evens) Betfair Exchange

Dustin Johnson

This is a standard bet for all tournaments and that is laying Dustin in running at 4.00 or 3/1 as he is a good player who usually shoots great first 2 rounds but is nowhere to be seen at the business end of a tournament. He wins an average of 1 tournament a year so over the course of a season you should be ahead laying him. So far I have laid him twice in running and made money both times.

LAY Johnson in running at 4.00 (3/1) Betfair Exchange

NB – You can only trade, back to lay or lay on a betting exchange such as Betfair. I make approx 30% of my profits by either trading or laying on Betfair.

China Open – R1 (Tuesday)

Well there were plenty of shock results in the opening day of the China Open, so I am hoping things calm down for a bit now. My tips were picked out earlier but I went out to the cinema tonight and have only got round to posting them now.
